Equine Media Professional Receives NCEA Distinguished Alumni Award

FORT WORTH, Texas – On April 20, Abigail Boatwright of Abigail Boatwright Communications was awarded the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Distinguished Alumni Award in the Media and Communications category. The 2018 Distinguished Alumni were recognized at the NCEA National Championship, held at the Extraco Events Center Waco, Texas.

In 2016, the NCEA established the Distinguished Alumni Award to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of NCEA team alumni who have made significant contributions in a professional field. Each year, teams can nominate one alumni in each of the eight categories. Of those nominees, the award recipients were reviewed by a selection committee and selected by the NCEA National Advisory Board.

“Thanks to the coaches at Texas A&M University for nominating me, and to the NCEA National Advisory Board for selecting me,” Boatwright said. “It’s an honor to receive this award and join the ranks of extremely talented Distinguished Alumni—newscasters, media moguls, doctors, veterinarians, professors, CEOs—the list is impressive. I truly owe much of my success in my career--and many of my friendships--to my time on the equestrian team. I'm forever grateful for the opportunities and education that I received by being on the team, and I’m passionate about promoting the sport of collegiate equestrian through my work.”

Abigail Boatwright competed for Texas A&M University's Equestrian Team from 2003-2006, and was a team co-captain her senior year. She graduated with a degree in agricultural science and minor in agricultural journalism. Abigail has spent the last 12 years writing and photographing for equine publications, and has earned multiple American Horse Publications and Livestock Publications Council awards for her work. As a freelancer, Abigail writes for more than a dozen magazines. Her equine photography has graced 17 magazine covers. Abigail also co-owns The Freelance Remuda, a podcast and resource for professionals in equine media.
