Meet the Hosts

Co-Founders of The Freelance Remuda and full-time freelancers, Abigail Boatwright and Kate Bradley Byars are joined in hosting the Freelance Remuda Retreat by longtime friend and fellow freelancer, Jennifer Denison.

Kate and Jennifer worked together at Western Horseman, and continued their friendship after moving on to other opportunities. Both have a strong background in editorial photography, pitching and cultivating story ideas to editors, and crafting tales. Abigail and Kate have known each other since Texas A&M Equestrian Team days.

Jennifer thrives on documenting moments few people ever get to experience. She finds inspiration attending colorful events celebrating the West, and meeting cowboys, Western women and families contently living on remote ranches. She seeks horsemen who develop colts' confidence through patience, a soft feel and a steady job. She monitors the progress of Western artists and craftsmen developing their skills and launching businesses. Documenting it all with authenticity is her passion and purpose.

Abigail started her career at APHA, and continues to work with the Paint Horse Journal and Chrome today along with serving as editor of Western Life Today. She works with Barrel Horse News and Western Horseman, and the NRHA’s The Reiner, producing award-winning articles. In addition to writing and photography for publications, she offers copy writing. She is an expert at aligning her writing to a brand’s voice and crafting a compelling message.

Kate began her career at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo before moving to Western Horseman. Since jumping into freelance work in 2012, she’s worked for multiple equine publications and thrives on gathering stories in person. In addition to writing and photography, she manages multiple clients social media platforms.
